West meets east meets down under – a koala and cherry blossom baby shower.

A friend of mine recently had a sweet, sweet baby girl.  Baby girl is kiddo number two for her, joining her big brother.  Back in 2011, when she was pregnant with her first, I had a shower scheduled, but her son had his own idea and came the day before the shower.  This time around, we scheduled enough in advance so the chances were better that baby girl would stay put.

This family is a cross-Pacific one, as mom is from the US and dad is from Australia.  So mom has tried to make sure that some of both countries are always represented.  This time, it’s koalas.  I took that nursery theme and ran with it, bringing in cherry blossoms to soften it up a bit.

And I have to say that throwing parties is probably one of my favorite things to do, especially now that I have Two Little Birds Design – I enjoy the challenge of new themes and decor ideas.

First up, was the invitation.  I found a really cute paper pack from this Valeriane Digital, as well as a little koala clip art from Collective Creations, both on Etsy.

I then started thinking about fun things to do that wouldn’t be too cheesy.  After some pinterest trips, I decided to do a headband bar – it didn’t hurt that she was so excited to have a little girl to have all the ruffles and bows.  I contacted my favorite headband maker, Little Roo’s Boutique, and we worked to get a fun variety of colors and styles that people attending the party could put together.  I whipped up a little instruction sheet (as well as a headband holder) and set it out on display.  It was really easy to make them too – just a little dab of hot glue here and you’ve got yourself a headband!

For other decorations, I made a couple of banners (“Welcome baby” and “Sweet Girl”), some cupcake toppers, and re-used decorations from Tori’s first birthday party to add some interest to the corner:

I decided on nail polish as favors, so I designed a thank you tag and tied them to the nail polishes.

And see those cherry blossom stems?  On clearance at Ikea!

We all had a great time and mom-of-two-to-be was spoiled, just like she needed to be!  And now, she’s snuggling this sweet little girl:

  1. I love the Koala theme! Can you let me know what font was used on the invite for “Baby Shower”? It would be the perfect font to use for some invites I am putting together. Thanks!
