I’m here, and ok

A friend of mine sent me a text yesterday asking if I was ok because I’ve kinda been MIA lately.  The truth is, I’m ok, but not, and the last thing I’ve wanted to do is blog.

A couple of weeks ago I realized how discouraged I’ve become with my photography.  I’ve been trying to please others with the pictures I take, instead of pleasing myself.  So, I removed myself from photo challenges, and stopped the photo challenge that I started (which completely flopped – you live, you learn).  I have rarely picked up my camera in the last two weeks.  I’m hoping that a new month that’s just around the corner will bring some revitalization.  Not to mention nice weather – mid-50’s and 20 mph winds get old when your friends and family are mentioning seventies.

I’ve focused my energies lately on spring cleaning at the house, doing a few projects here and there, and finishing up my last class.  I came to the realization about part-way through my current class that it’s just not what I thought it was going to be, so I’m not going to continue with this program.  Luckily, my company offers some courses for free that I can attend so I’m going that route for now.  I did learn a lot in the four courses I took, and can now understand a lot more when I listen to the news and attend work meetings.

Weekend before last, I spent hours wiping down our blinds (we have those gorgeous wooden ones thanks to the previous owner), washing windows, vacuuming and dusting.  Since this past weekend was Easter, I spent Saturday shopping and finishing up a few crafts that I had started the week before that ended up on our dining room table for not only decoration but function.

I started growing the cat grass on the Friday before… so April 15.  I saw this idea when I googled “Easter table decorations” and ran right away to the store to get the necessary components.  Each bowl was on clearance at Walmart, and I bought the seeds at an organic grocery store nearby.  I put them in one of the two windows in the house that faces south with saran wrap over it for the first 4 days.  The ceramic eggs I bought at Hobby Lobby for $.99 each (4 in all).  I don’t know if the cats will eat this or not, but it was cheap and easy.  The table runner I bought from Target.

I also put together these little baskets for our guests to take home.  I made the baskets out of card stock and clearance ribbon that I found at Hobby Lobby.  I found the hollow bunnies at Walmart, and added some Hershey kisses to finish it up (can’t go wrong with Kisses!)

I also attempted some coffee cupcakes that I found on Trendy Treehouse a few weeks ago.  I forgot to get a picture of them, but they were really yummy.  And, they fit nicely on the cupcake tier that I made out of upcycled china, candlesticks, and a shot glass I found at Goodwill.  A little bit of “goop” and they’re stuck together “forever”.  I love the shabby-chicness to them!  Plus, it only cost me about $8 to make (would’ve been $4, but I had to buy the Goop).

So it’s been a crazy couple of weeks.  And I didn’t even mention what S got me for Easter (which I’m still “mad” at him for).  It’s going to open a whole new world for me, and I’m excited to start using it!  Just need to get through this class first!

  1. If you haven’t already noticed, I’ve been pretty MIA, too. I have also not used my camera much and am struggling with the same sort of things you are. You are not alone!

I’ve also hit a huge block with my blog, and am having trouble coming up with things that I want to post on a regular basis. So, we’ll see what happens.

You’re so much more crafty than I am, although I have a ton of DIY projects I’d love to do. Getting started is the hard part. Was it pretty easy to make that cake stand?

  2. Sounds like you have been busy. I have missed reading your blog. Hope you are feeling more motivated.
