It’s been a little while since my last post (which, to me, isn’t really surprising, since I can never seem to think of things to write).
So what’s been going on with us?
The end of the semester at UNC is winding down… which means the graduation of my first class of seniors. It’s been a whirlwind first year of advising the women of Beta Beta chapter… and I know I’ve learned so much from the experience. Each one of the women in the chapter has touched my life in some way, and I remember being in the senior’s shoes… about ready to tackle the next chapter of my life. This past Saturday, the Denver Alumnae Chapter held a luncheon in their honor, and a few were able to make it
I’ve been in the process of doing some soul-searching, meeting and calling various people in the field to get their advice on where to go from here. A position opened up within the organization that seems right up my alley, and so after all of these phone calls and meetings, resume tweaking and cover letter building, I put in an application on Thursday. The job is a long shot, but I’m hoping that they’ll give me a chance – it’s a perfect opportunity to use the science that I’ve worked so hard to understand for all of these years and put to use the skills that I’ve developed through my job as advising and other work as a national volunteer with the sorority.
I also put myself out there and joined a bookclub. The first meeting was interesting… they had chosen a book that was not good and I was worried about the types of books they would be choosing. However, no one else liked it, and so I’m going to continue to go. It was a mix of guys and girls, and I think I was the oldest there, and definitely the only one married. It’s really different to be on this side of things, but I wouldn’t trade it for the world.
The weather here seems to finally be changing for the better (although as I say that, it’s only 46 outside). Last week, I walked over and met S after class instead of picking him up. It was nice to actually be outside and getting some sort of activity. And yesterday, I made the decision to go out and walk around the trails around work during a lunch break as the area is too gorgeous not to take advantage of. Of course, as I make the decision, it gets cold and cloudy again.
It also gave me the chance to use the new camera I bought for S and I over the weekend… a Canon PowerShot SX210 IS. I’ve had a blast messing around with the settings and features and even though I’m no pro at it, I’ve managed to produce some good shots. I’m really interested to use it at my cousin’s wedding next month and see how I do with people who aren’t S or I. I’d also like to get to the Denver Botanic Gardens to mess around there.
